Change of scenery

I've started a new role recently. 'Houdini Generalist' at Framestore Commercials. It's an exciting new role for me, as I will be using Houdini more than ever before, and I can't wait to develop my skills and knowledge.
So far it has been a steep learning curve, getting used to a Linux environment, working my way around Shotgun, and working in a very large team, all new things for me.
I've been lucky to get a chance to work with the FX team, working on Clouds, Ocean Mist, and Boat wakes, using FLIP, and Pyro extensively. There are many seriously talented people alongside me, with credits from Starwars, ILM, DNeg etc, so I'm hoping some of their skill will rub off a bit on me.
Well, if nothing else, it's a step towards more FX work, which I really enjoy.

Here's a recent project I was involved with at Analog, only for the last few days mind, but some useful skills brushed up on. I tracked the face of the robot for the live action sections, so the digital eyes could be added on. I also object tracked the robot arm and added CG missiles, so fast you'll miss it! Anyway, it was fun re-learning PFTrack again, now its become 'node based'.

Here's a recent project I created at NineteenTwenty. I helped with the clouds in the opening shot. Created in Houdini from a pretty comprehensive set of custom tools I worked on, which helped get the correct look of shapes and types. I created a mini library of Cumulus, Cirrus, and various trailing clouds. Shot was rendered in Mantra.
I also lit and rendered the opening of the roof, also rendered in Mantra.

Out with the old, in with the new?

I have no idea if anyone was reading my old blog, other than my Mum. (Hi Mum). So I've decided to de-activate it for now. The only traffic I could see was thousands upon thousands of hack attempts from Russia.! Go Russia!

I didn't update it very often anyway, but if there was some following, then add a comment, and I'll re-activate it.

Update: Ported the posts across from the other WordPress site. You can use the little icons at the top to search posts. Which is quite handy.
